Android Park:  Today we’ll interview a young & talented developer team ‘BrainIcon’ from Beer-Sheva, Israel. BrainIcon released their first Android game ‘Brain Maze’ in this year,  and the game has gained very high rating (4.7/5) in Google Play.  The most interesting story from BrainIcon happened in one honeymoon to Central America. Let’s now get to know more about their stories, work, life, and inspirations.

Android Park: Would you please introduce yourself to us and our readers?

BrainIcon: Hello everybody, My name is Nir Hartmann, I am 28 years, married, and lives in Beer-Sheva, Israel. I have just finished my master degree in biotechnology engineering. In my spare time i fly a power parachute, scuba-dive or developing games.  Following is picture of me & my brothers.  ^_^

Android Park: How do you start your career in designing or developing mobile games? Is there an interesting story that happened at the beginning of your gaming career?

BrainIcon: There are a lot of interesting stories regarding the start of my mobile games developing career. When I got my first Android device (SGS1) I’ve started developing a simple puzzle game for it – “Brain Squares”. It was hideous and a very challenging game (even too much so). I did it just for fun and didn’t publish it, for I thought it will be a waste of money.

Just a couple of days after I’ finished developing it I flew for my honeymoon to Central America. In Belize, in a very small and isolated island, I’ve shown my game to a local waiter and he didn’t stop playing it. I was actually stuck in that beautiful beach-side restaurant for several hours, until he made it through the whole 25 levels. From that point on, I’ve shown it to several other people during my trip and due to the positive results I’ve decied to publish it when I returned home.

It took a month to get 10000+ downloads (keep in mind – it was a very graphically unappealing game, as my graphical skills are, well, extremely limited). At that point I called my little brother, who is a graphical designer and discussed with him the opportunity to join forces on this game. He immediately joined in and made the game extremely appealing. Once we were done with Brain Squares we’ve started working on Brain Maze. We had a cool nice maze game in mind and couldn’t find one.

Android Park: How long have you been engaged in the gaming industry? Are you enjoying working in this industry? What makes you most excited about designing or developing a mobile game?

BrainIcon: I’ve actually started developing games in high school for every programming language that I was introduced to, but it was only in the last two year that I’ve been engaged in serious developing. I am having a LOT of fun working in the industry, and I especially enjoy the beginning of the development – when the game is just starting to take shape. One of my most exciting moments was when I saw someone in my university that I don’t know, playing Brain Maze.

I am also very much delighted to see the high ranking that we get on the Play store. That keeps me motivated to keep on developing games for the community.
